Burlington Taxi Earns Mayor’s Community Service Award

Posted on Friday, April 20th, 2018

On Thursday April 5, Burlington Taxi was awarded with the Mayor’s Community Service Award. Nominees were considered on how they contributed to Burlington quality of life, making Burlington a better place in which to live and work.

Some examples of our involvement in the previous year included:

  • our efforts in collecting more than 4,000 socks for people in need;
  • advocating for a level playing field to keep riders safe and providing fairness for taxi operators, drivers, and our community; and
  • support for local organizations like the Halton Learning Foundation’s Back to School Campaign, Treats in Our Streets, Joseph Brant Hospital Foundation, and local Rotary Clubs.

We are honoured to have received this award. Taking part in community initiatives and supporting the community in a bigger way is as vital as the transportation we provide. We are grateful for our drivers and staff who are truly the reason why we are able to do what we do in the community.

Finding meaningful ways to connect with, and give back to our city, to our customers, to our drivers & staff that have embraced and supported our business is always a fun challenge. As we enter our 50th year in business this year, we are looking forward to all the ways we can continue to support the community in 2018!

Winter Storms and Taxi Service

Posted on Thursday, March 1st, 2018

Winter Storms are unpredictable but we can guarantee they affect our taxi service:

Call Volume Will Triple: When you want to avoid the roads, most other people do as well. Our call volume typically triples during winter storms so please be patient as our drivers, dispatch & mechanical staff are working their hardest to transport you safely.

Avoid Rush Hour: If possible, try to book your taxi outside of Rush hour (7-9:30 a.m). Not only are we getting people to the office, many people don’t realize we are also getting children to school. Booking a taxi outside of rush hour will allow us to provide you with the best service possible.

Assume Major Traffic Delays: We can guarantee that roads will be slow with Winter Storms. From snow plows and salt trucks, to cautious drivers, and accidents there is always something that slows traffic down. Please plan accordingly to allow yourself more than double the time to get to your destination. Call our dispatch for advance booking suggestions.

Party Season & Saturday Night Bar Rush Intensified: What do you get when you add extreme weather and Christmas party season? Extremely high demand and often extremely slow service. Everyone wants to get home from parties and bars during the 12am – 3am period. It is a chaotic scenario for our drivers and dispatch. They are working their hardest during these periods, not only to keep up with demand but to transport their passengers safely. Please keep this in mind when you are planning your event transportation during the month of December.

Above all, please be patient with us as we try to get everyone home as quickly and safely as possible!

Spreading Holiday Cheer

Posted on Friday, December 29th, 2017

In December 2017, Burlington Taxi supported two local community initiatives to help spread some holiday cheer.

Socks for the Homeless

Pile of SocksFrom December 1-18, Burlington Taxi, along with our local sock box hosts collected nearly 4,000 pairs of socks for people in need. We partnered with the organization “Your Little Bit of Help”, who assembled the socks into gift bags along with other personal care items, and delivered them to people in need on Christmas Day.

It took 4 vehicles, 7 elves and countless hours to get nearly 100 gift bags delivered to organizations like the Angel Project, Compassion Society, Inasmuch House and Mission Services. We also collected hundreds of pairs of children’s socks, which will be distributed to Halton Schools in the new year.

Thank to you our sock box hosts and to everyone who donated socks during the campaign!

Driving Mr. & Mrs. Claus

Mr. and Mrs. Claus In Front of TaxiOn December 22, in celebration of the last day of school,  Mr. and Mrs. Claus drove for us, picking up lucky customers who were treated to free rides. Burlington Taxi covered their fare and donated the amount to the Halton Learning Foundation in support of their “No Student Left Behind” campaign.

We raised more than $500 from the trips and Burlington Taxi has matched it to donate a total of $1,000 to the Halton Learning Foundation.

Special thanks goes to our drivers Gary Ross and Sheryl Silverthorne for spending the day driving in costume for us and spreading Christmas cheer.

Free Rides with Mr. & Mrs. Claus

In the Spirit of Christmas

On December 22, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be moonlighting for Burlington Taxi, picking up lucky customers throughout the day. If Mr. or Mrs. Claus is driving your taxi, your ride is FREE!

Burlington Taxi will cover your fare, and donate the amount to the Halton Learning Foundation in support of their “No Student Left Behind” campaign.

No Student Left Behind

The Halton Learning Foundation provides emergency funds to support students whose families are facing extraordinary financial challenges, such as a job loss or illness.  Today, 6,500 students in our HDSB schools risk being left behind because they don’t have warm clothes, enough food to eat or can’t afford to participate in school trips and activities.

These funds help a local student come to school, participate in learning experiences with their classmates, and stay engaged in their education, while providing relief to families.

You can support the campaign by purchasing a gift, or making any monetary donation. For more information, please visit https://www.haltonlearningfoundation.ca/.
