Happy New Year!

Once again Your Little Bit of Help has a big thank you to so very many people!  This year was probably our most successful year with donations and organization.

Our team of volunteers assembled 113 gift bags and we delivered to shelters in Burlington, Hamilton and Kitchener.  So many pairs of socks for women & children – it was incredible!  On top of the gift bags, we dropped off 3 large cases of socks to Men’s Street Ministry in Hamilton who actually deliver to the homeless nightly!  On Christmas day with our delivery to the Men’s Mission we were able to give them 3 extra-large boxes with men’s socks.  The Chaplain was expecting us and was thrilled with our delivery as well as the residents.  They were in good spirits and were all wishing us a Merry Christmas!

The contents for the bags were as follows:  6 pairs of good quality warm Socks, Trident gum, Halls, Full size Chocolate Bars, Maynard Candies, Froot Loop Snacks, Deck of Playing Cards, Toe Warmers, Hand Warmers, Combs, Kleenex, Sudoku Puzzle Books, pocket size calendar, pen, reusable Water Bottle, White Gildan T-Shirt, 2 Gift Cards for $5.00 each for 541 Eatery & Exchange Restaurant in Hamilton, Lypsyl, Rain Poncho, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Deodorant, Bandaids, Thermal shoe liners, Gloves and Toques –  all items were delivered in a festive gift bag with red tissue.

Keep a warm blanket in your car.  Have a few $5.00 Tim cards in your wallet.  When you see someone on the street give it to them.  People don’t wake up and say “I want to live on the street.”  It’s not always a bad choice that has put them there… and as we all know, sometimes we just need a helping hand.

We would like to express our thanks to every single one of you that donated your time, product, cash donations, pick up, drop off, and delivery – it was incredible!  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!  All the best in 2017!

We are honoured to support our dispatcher’s family in their annual Christmas morning delivery  to  shelters in the Hamilton & Burlington area. Our contribution is SOCKS!  We were surprised to learn that SOCKS are one of the most valued but least donated articles of clothing in shelters across Ontario. Particularly MEN’S SOCKS.

Here’s how to donate a pair of NEW SOCKS:

  1. Give your NEW SOCKS to any Burlington Taxi Driver
  2. We will deliver you a SOCK BOX so you may gather from family, friends & colleagues
  3. Or bring NEW SOCKS to the Burlington’s Christmas Parade December 4th. Elves will collect!

A very large thank you to the following Burlington organizations and companies that are hosting their own SOCK Drive in support of Your Little Bit of Help. Help us reach our goal of  2,500 pairs of socks! We can do it! Every single pair of SOCKS makes a difference.

Here is a letter from Angie Richardson, founder of  Your Little Bit of Help:

To my friends, family, colleagues and donators,

Five years ago I started an initiative to “give” to the homeless on Christmas morning. The
first year started with gently worn coats generously donated by friends, family, colleagues,
and players of both the Bulldog hockey organization and Stampeder Football
organization. After having delivered two SUV’s filled to the brim to Mission Services in
Hamilton and seeing the absolute delight on the faces of the homeless I felt this should
turn into something bigger and annual. My initiative began …“Your little Bit of Help.”

It is important to me to have the deliveries on Christmas morning as the holidays can be a
very lonely and sad time for some. On Christmas morning we load up 4 vehicles and more
than 10 of us deliver to various shelters in Burlington and Hamilton area.

Our focus is mainly men, but continue to receive donated products for women which is
delivered to the women’s shelters. This year we hope to fill 80 back packs and 20 gift bags
and fill the bags with NEW hygiene products as well as a few NEW essentials; refillable
bottle for water, gloves, toques, underwear, socks and t-shirts and this year maybe a few
things to keep one busy – Sudoku books, crossword puzzles etc.

Your Little Bit of Help is an organization to help those less fortunate and it wouldn’t exist without the assistance and wonderful donations of so many people. Burlington Taxi is our primary contributor of Socks and we greatly appreciate the customers and companies that have called out to do their own sock collection over the month of December. We are very fortunate!

Every year I am filled with emotion with every delivery I receive big or small – it is incredible
how giving people can be and the emotion is truly overwhelming.

If you are able to help out in any way – know that your donations are greatly appreciated.
